Paul Dean, Boston Sales, Boeing Representative attended the Boeing Supplier Diversity Showcase this August. The theme of the
show was “Partnering with Small and Diverse Businesses: Our Past, Present and Future.” Representatives from businesses like Edge
Electronics were invited to the invitation only event.
“The showcase was a first class event. Boeing should be
extremely proud with the setup and the turn out,” Paul said after returning from the Showcase.
At the event, Paul had the opportunity to meet with Boeing procurement specialists, engineers, and program managers, as
well as partners and government agencies to gain insight from Boeing’s strategic leaders. He established contacts and enriched
relationships at all levels of the Boeing organization. Along with stimulating speakers talking about Boeing’s initiatives in
supply chain management the attendees developed a shared understanding of business challenges.
“It was a tremendous opportunity for Edge Electronics to
attend,” Paul recalled. “We were the only electronics distributor to
present.”
Boeing representatives had the opportunity to learn more
about the technology offerings of Edge as part of the company’s commitment to develop supplier relationships that will continue to
provide innovative, best-of-industry, best-value solutions.
“There is opportunity to do business direct with Boeing and to other attendees that have electronics requirements,” Paul
concluded. “The potential upside is immeasurable.”
The event was held Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Boeing Auditorium in Seattle, Washington.

Traditional Metal Oxide Varistors
withstand 150% of its rated voltage for a given duration. But Metal Oxide Varistors
may fail to a short-circuit condition or fail to open when subjected to sustained
steady-state over-voltage above its rated
specifications. TVZ has a thermal fuse
integrated with an MOV disk that responds to the MOV temperature and
disconnects |
|
the MOV from the line, should the temperature or voltage
exceed a certain level.
The TVZ series is designed to meet the abnormal over-voltage
requirements of UL 1449 3rd edition, Section 39.4.
World Products Inc. three-leaded TVZ devices are designed to be
connected, via the monitor lead, to an indicator (such as an LED) to
provide diagnostic features indicating if the MOV is disconnected from the
circuit in the event the fuse element opens.
As a result of the integration of the thermal fuse attached to the MOV
disc, Thermally Fused Varistors provide an instant response to unexpected
over-voltage situations. Lower inductance is another benefit of the inclusion
of a thermal fuse, enhancing clamping performance to sudden
over-voltage transients. World Products Inc. Thermally Protected Varistors
offer protection to sensitive downstream electric components.

NEC's new 78KOR devices give you all the advantages of 16-bit MCUs and
get a lot of mileage from a set of batteries. The 27 new 78KOR
MCUs provide best-in-class power/
performance of 1.8 mW/MIPS at 3V— approximately twice the power/
performance of other leading 16-bit MCUs and six times the
power/performance of NEC Electronics’ 8-bit
78KOR MCUs. |
|
|
Even if you aren’t watching every milliwatt, the new 16-bit MCUs offer just-right performance for applications that lie in
the broad area between 8- and 32-bit capabilities. So the 16-bit devices are perfect for upgrading 8-bit
applications.
Using a three-stage pipeline, the new 78KOR devices give
you 13 Dhrystone MIPS performance at 20 MHz. Almost all instructions execute in one or two cycles. And if you are used
to 8-bit devices’ 64 KB linear address space, a 16-bit MCUs will seem like a whole new world. The 78KOR’s 20-bit address
bus opens up a 1-MB linear address space. On-board flash capacity can go as high as 512 KB.
Like our new 32-bit MCUs, the 78KOR devices features
DMA, power-on reset and voltage detection circuits, two on-board oscillators and EMI noise reduction. The flash
memory is based on single-voltage SuperFlash® technology.
Built-in real-time clock
The 78KOR’s capabilities go far beyond those of 8-bit devices, but the cost remains reasonable, especially
considering the new device’s built-in functions. In particular, the 78KOR’s on-board real-time clock
(RTC) eliminates the need for
an external one. This is a true hardware-based RTC, in contrast to most competing products that use pre-scale timers/counters
with a software calendar function.
The 78KOR RTC ensures timing accuracy by including error
correction for the crystal oscillator as well as temperature compensation. The RTC module provides separate alarm
registers and timer interval counter, and the registers can handle long intervals—up to 99 years. To minimize power
consumption, calendar update works on a long wakeup cycle. The RTC runs in Halt mode and does not require frequent
updates. These features are ideal for applications such as set-top boxes, digital cameras, glucose meters, blood pressure
monitors, smart home appliances, thermostats, HVAC systems and residential fire alarm panels.
Migrate to 16-bit power
To provide a smooth migration path, 78KOR devices are software compatible with NEC Electronics’ 8-bit 78KOR /Kx2
MCUs. The 78KOR devices has the instructions of the 78KOR plus 16 new instructions, including shift instructions, 16-bit add
and subtract instructions, a single-cycle 16-bit multiply instructions, and SKIP instructions. Software developed specifically for
the 16-bit platform can thus achieve more compact code size and higher real-time performance.

Who’s the Boss? (It may not be who you think.)
In business we all hear and discuss topics like
Security, the Global Economy, Corporate
Accountability, Sarbanes Oxley, Outsourcing, Sales and Marketing, the impact of Technology,
and Global Warming just to mention a few, but we always seem to leave out the most important
topic: “Who’s the Boss?”
We all have one boss and in my company, it’s
not me. The “Boss” can hire and fire anyone in the entire company (including me!) If you haven’t
already figured it out, the real Boss is THE CUSTOMER.
Our customers provide us with steady work
and a decent income. They open up employment
opportunities for additional workers and provide us with a viable business. They give us the reason
to answer the phone, take an order, purchase materials, store inventory, ship products, send out
invoices, pay our bills, file, use software, program
product, learn about new products, install quality procedures, market our products, advertise, etc.
The list goes on and on.
Everyone here at Edge is responsible for
doing the very best job they can for the real “Boss.” Let’s face it; none of us wants to be fired
by the “Boss.” So, on behalf of me and all the Edge employees, we all wish to send a big
“Thank You!” to the Boss. We sincerely hope that
we are performing above and beyond your expectations.
Hail to the Chief! Our Customers!
Sincerely,
Adrienne Giannone
President/CEO
Edge Electronics, Inc.

Unytouch Manufacturing has developed a new twist in 5 Wire Resistive touch technology.
For most, daylight readability with LCD based applications
come with its share of challenges such as adequate brightness and contrast ratio of the LCD itself. Couple that
with issues of glare and reflection from the touch sensor and you quickly find yourself behind the
eight ball from a design
point of view.
Unytouch Manufacturing has solved these design issues
with its full line of Film on Glass and Glass on Glass 5 wire resistive touch sensors. These sensors will incorporate a
combination of advanced film technologies that will reduce overall surface reflection to < 5% while improving overall
color intensity. The end results are clear and crisp images from your high bright industrial LCD modules
that would likely be compromised with standard touch technologies.
Mass production is scheduled for late Q4 2007. For additional information,
please contact your local Edge Electronics representative.
