Micron Compliance Documentation Guide
What each Micron compliance document covers, who asks for it, and how to request the set your program needs for your exact part numbers.

Match the question to the document
Start with what your program needs to know, then confirm the available documentation for the selected parts.
- What data can remain, and how is it cleared? Statement of VolatilityMemory elements and clearing procedures
- Does the part meet restricted-substance limits? RoHS declarationRestricted substances
- Are substances of very high concern present? REACH SVHC declarationSubstance disclosure at a point in time
- How does the company source 3TG minerals? CMRTCompany-level sourcing disclosure
- Where was the part manufactured? Country-of-origin documentationManufacturing origin
Tell us which documents and revisions your program requires. We can request the available manufacturer documents for the selected parts.
Some documents apply to a specific product; others cover the manufacturer’s reporting scope. Check that each document addresses your requirement.
What Compliance Documentation Do Buyers Need for Micron Memory in Regulated Industries?
Documents you may need include:
- Statement of Volatility (SoV)
- RoHS declaration
- REACH SVHC declaration
- Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT)
- Country-of-origin documentation
Not every program requires all five. Confirm the required documents, revisions, product scope, and handling requirements with your program’s responsible team.
Here’s how the set breaks down:
| Document | What it covers | Who Typically Requests It | Regulatory Framework |
|---|---|---|---|
| Statement of Volatility (SoV) | How volatile and non-volatile memory elements can be cleared at end-of-life | Defense, aerospace, medical, federal | Data-sanitization requirements in program and industry standards |
| RoHS Declaration | Compliance with restricted substance limits (lead, mercury, cadmium, and others) | EU-bound products, global OEMs | EU Directive 2011/65/EU |
| REACH SVHC | Disclosure of Substances of Very High Concern | EU-bound products, global OEMs | EU Regulation 1907/2006 |
| CMRT | Company-level disclosure of 3TG (tin, tungsten, tantalum, gold) sourcing | Public companies, defense primes, automotive | Dodd-Frank Section 1502 |
| Country of Origin | Where the part was manufactured | TAA/BAA programs, federal buyers | 19 U.S.C. §2501 (TAA), 41 U.S.C. §8301 (BAA) |
What Is a Statement of Volatility, and Why Does It Matter?
A Statement of Volatility is a compliance document that catalogs the volatile and non-volatile memory elements inside a component and explains how each one can be cleared or sanitized at end-of-life.
The SoV is the document auditors use to check what data can persist once power is removed and how it is cleared. Programs with data-sanitization requirements ask for it by name, or by describing it as “end-of-life data clearing” evidence.
What Is RoHS, and Why Do Buyers Request It for Micron Memory?
RoHS is the EU directive that restricts the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. A RoHS declaration confirms that a component meets those limits.
Even if your end product doesn’t ship to the EU, global OEMs and their contract manufacturers routinely flow RoHS down to the components on the BOM. It’s become a de facto baseline. Micron issues RoHS declarations at the part-number level, and they’re one of the more straightforward documents to request from Micron’s compliance library.
What Is REACH, and How Does It Apply to Micron Parts?
REACH is the EU regulation governing chemicals. The part of REACH that buyers care about for memory components is the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) list.
A Micron REACH declaration states whether any SVHCs are present above the 0.1% weight-by-weight threshold. The SVHC list is updated twice a year, so a REACH declaration is a point-in-time document. If you saw a REACH declaration six months ago, it may not reflect the current SVHC list.
What Is a CMRT, and Why Do Defense Primes Ask for It?
A Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) is a standardized disclosure, developed by the Responsible Minerals Initiative, that documents how a company sources the four conflict minerals: tin, tungsten, tantalum, and gold, known as 3TG.
It exists because Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act requires public companies to disclose 3TG sourcing tied to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and adjoining countries. The RMI maintains the template format itself, which is why a CMRT from any supplier should look structurally similar.
Micron’s corporate CMRT covers the company’s 3TG sourcing. It is a company-level document, not a report for an individual part.
How Do ITAR and EAR Flow-Down Affect Micron Documentation Delivery?
ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) and EAR (Export Administration Regulations) govern how technical data tied to controlled programs can be shared, transmitted, and stored. When a prime contractor flows ITAR or EAR requirements down to its supply chain, documentation handling comes into scope alongside the part itself.
For programs under export control, agree the document-handling method with the prime and tell us the requirement when you request the quote, so the method is settled before any document moves. Export-controlled programs often carry procurement priority as well. That’s separate from documentation, but something that frequently lands on the same buyer’s desk.
We cover priority ratings in our post on DPAS-rated orders, and the broader procurement picture in our guide to DPAS, DFARS, and TAA for Micron memory.
How Does Edge Electronics Provide Micron Compliance Documentation?
Tell us which documents your program needs. We’ll request those available for the quoted parts and coordinate any additional questions with the manufacturer.
Include the complete manufacturer part number, required revisions, intended use of the documents, and any restrictions on how they may be exchanged. We’ll confirm availability and agree how they can be provided.
Edge is certified to ISO 9001:2015, WBENC-certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise, and a 2018 Lockheed Martin RMS Elite Supplier.
Ready to Assemble Your Micron Compliance Package?
Send us your part numbers and required documents. We’ll confirm availability and how they can be provided.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I request documentation?
Send us the complete manufacturer part number and the documents your program requires. We’ll confirm what is available and how it can be provided.
What if Micron hasn’t published documentation for my specific part?
If a document isn’t in the published library, we open a request with Micron’s quality team.
Can Edge provide documentation for Micron parts purchased elsewhere?
Yes, within limits. Compliance documentation is a benefit of sourcing through an authorized distributor, so a part we didn’t originally ship isn’t one we can pull a full package for on its own.
But if you’d like Edge to support the part going forward, we can quote it and handle documentation from that point on. For documentation on a past order from another supplier, your original distributor is the right first call.
Does Edge handle ITAR-controlled programs?
Edge Electronics, Inc. maintains a current manufacturer and exporter registration with the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls under ITAR. Product jurisdiction, licensing, eligibility, and technical-data handling remain transaction-specific. Put your program’s flow-down requirements on the RFQ and we confirm what applies to the quoted item in writing.
Which document do I need if my program asks for “data sanitization” evidence?
The Statement of Volatility. Compliance teams often ask for “data sanitization documentation” or “end-of-life data clearing procedures” without naming the document.
Do REACH and RoHS declarations expire?
Neither document has a formal expiration date, but REACH declarations are point-in-time. The SVHC list is revised twice a year, so a REACH declaration more than six months old may not reflect the current list. RoHS declarations are more stable but should be re-pulled if a part has been revised or if the program has a fresh documentation requirement.
